Destination Portland Jamaica (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Destination Portland Jamaica website and related admin tools — a parish directory that connects visitors and residents with local businesses, attractions, events, and cultural information in Portland Parish, Jamaica.
This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written for this website’s current features. It is not legal advice.
1. Information we collect
- Business registration & listing data you or an admin submit — for example business name, owner/contact names, descriptions, address, community, phone, WhatsApp, email, website, social links, hours, map location, photos, and logos.
- Messages you send us by Email us or WhatsApp.
- Technical & usage data such as IP address (used for abuse prevention / rate limits), browser type, device information, and pages visited when analytics is enabled.
- Cookie consent preference stored in your browser so we remember whether you accepted optional analytics or chose essential cookies only.
- Admin accounts for authorised operators who manage listings and events (login session data).
2. How we use information
- Publish, edit, approve, reject, or remove directory listings and events.
- Display public business contact details you provide so visitors can call, message, or find the place.
- Respond to enquiries and support requests.
- Operate, secure, and improve the website (including preventing spam and abuse).
- Understand aggregate traffic with optional analytics after you consent.
3. Cookies & analytics
Essential cookies keep the site working (for example remembering cookie preference and securing admin sessions). These are needed for core functionality.
Optional analytics (Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights) help us understand traffic and performance. We load these only after you choose Accept analytics on the cookie banner. If you choose Essential only (or dismiss with Escape), analytics are not loaded.
You can reopen cookie choices anytime via Cookie settings in the footer, or by clearing site data in your browser.
4. Third parties & processors
We use trusted service providers to run the site. They process data only as needed to provide their services:
- Vercel — website hosting, optional Analytics / Speed Insights.
- Supabase — database and file storage for listings, events, and uploads.
- OpenStreetMap and related map tile providers — map display (technical requests from your browser when you open the map).
- Email & WhatsApp — when you contact us or use contact buttons on listings, those services process the message according to their own policies.
Some providers may process data outside Jamaica. We use them because they are required to operate a modern hosted website and directory.
5. Public listings
Information you submit for a business listing (including phone, WhatsApp, address, photos, and descriptions) is intended to be shown publicly after approval. Do not submit personal data you do not want published. Owner/manager names may appear on the listing page when provided.
6. Data storage & retention
Listing, event, and registration data are stored with our hosting and database providers for as long as needed to operate the directory, respond to requests, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. Rejected listings may be kept so operators can restore or review them. Deleted listings are removed from the public site; residual backups may exist for a limited period with our providers.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate for a small directory site (HTTPS, access-controlled admin tools, and provider security features). No online service is completely secure. Please use strong passwords for admin access and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of a listing.
8. Your choices & rights
Depending on applicable law (including Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, where it applies), you may request to:
- Access personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate listing or contact details
- Ask us to remove or unpublish a listing you control
- Withdraw optional analytics consent (clear site data)
To make a request, Email us with enough detail for us to identify the listing or enquiry. We may need to verify that you are authorised to change a business listing before we edit or remove it.
9. Children
The site is intended for a general audience and business operators. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 for registration. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the site grows. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after updates means you acknowledge the revised policy.
11. Contact
